What’s A KNORK? It’s Awesome!

November 22, 2013 — 64 Comments

UPDATE 4/17/14: Holy smokes! Are you read for ROUND TWO?! Sarah has graciously agreed to give away ANOTHER 20-PIECE SET (gloss finish) of KNORK flatware to one lucky person! That’s a $90 value! Participate via the Rafflecopter widget below and I’ll announce the winner next week! Share, share, share! ๐Ÿ™‚

We are seriously still loving ours some six months later!

A couple weeks ago I received an email from Sarah at KNORK.

She was like, “Hey, we have these utensils that are made to work super rad with one hand and we’d like to send you some so you can tell us what you think. ย And we’d love for you to do a review on your website. Especially if you also think they’re rad.”

I probably shouldn’t have used quotation marks there because that isn’t really what she said at all, but the gist is the same. ย And the cool thing is… I DO think they’re rad.

Look at that KNORK fork! It’s a thing of beauty, eh?

Watch this video I made to see me un-box my set and then use them. It’s super dorky, but my reaction is genuine.

Basically, I’m a huge fan of the KNORK flatware. They’re solid, beautiful and incredibly efficient. We’ve been using them throughout the week and we all (my wife and kids included) love them. My wife and kids have all of their hands, too, so it’s not like being one-handed is a pre-requisite for enjoying their awesomeness. I used mine tonight to eat some ramen AND a bowl of Golden Grahams. WORKED PERFECTLY. Seriously, though, we had a pork roast last night and my KNORK fork cut through it like BUTTER.

So, go to KNORK.net and check ’em out. Then see if your local stores (like Bed, Bath and Beyond) have them and git some!

P.S. Obviously, I got mine for free, but I’d tell you if I hated them. Seriously. ย And I don’t get anything if you buy them, so I’m not just hocking you some junk to make some paper. ย I really do like them and think you will, too.

  1. I’m totally still laughing about the end ๐Ÿ˜‰ but I just wanted to tell you I’m psyched you posted this! I was going to buy knorks for Christmas gifts last year for my daughter who happens to be a lefty like you ๐Ÿ˜‰ and also for one of my former residents who had had a stroke and no longer has the use of his left arm. I never ended up doing it because I figured A, they likely wouldn’t actually work and B, I was worried about my recipients cutting their mouths on the side of this knork thing. Well, the fear of let down and injury has just been wiped away, so thanks Ryan ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. It’s hard enough to use regular silverware for kids. Sam would totally dig some silverware that make his mealtime easier. Loved the video, keep up the great work Ryan!

  3. Wow! These seem so cool. Are they too big for a 7 year old to use? My son would love this. To be able to cut up his own food. It makes me happy just thinking about it!

  4. Thanks for posting this, Ryan! I’ve heard of Knork, but haven’t looked for it. I appreciate the reminder!

  5. This is cook! I ordered a sample one for my kid to see how he likes it. No more cutting excuses for him!

  6. I need to get these. My daughter has erb’s palsy which limits her use in her left arm. this should work for her really well.

  7. We were so excited to see the video and finally find something that is going to work for cutting our food with one hand. Thank you so much…

  8. These are so awesome! My six year old son, Liam would love these to cut up his own food. He tries to be so independent, but with a little arm (as we refer to it) that can sometimes be hard. This would be perfect for him!

  9. Would love this for my son Luke, who has Erb’s palsy. His right hand is paralyzed. He is just learning to use utensils now but they will be great when he gets a little older. ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I totally need this. I have 2 kids with one hand each, and one kid with zero hands. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. This is seriously awesome. Love it!

  12. They look amazing! I would definitely love a set of these. Citing food is not my favorite task. I am a one handed occupational therapist and these are definitely something I would recommend to my patients!

  13. Super stoked about seeing these work in our house!

Wow these are so awesome. I would love for my three year old daughter to try these. She was born one handed.

  15. My son is one handed as well. These would be fantastic for him. Once he learns not to throw his utensils… Oh! And today happens to be his second birthday! (Because every kid wants cutlery for their birthday.) ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. Super excited to see if I win, my 3 girls would rock these Knorks!

  17. I’m been trying to find a place in Canada to buy these since Living One Handed first posted about them without success so winning some would be great!!!

  18. would love to win a set of these for my son who has a traumatic brachial plexus injury (complete paralysis of arm and hand). Thanks.

  19. I have several knocks (Woops! KNORKS! Darn that auto-correct!) and love them (both stainless steel and plastic versions).

  20. This is so exciting. The knork looks awesome but just watching you and how you use your short arm to hold the fork and then cut with knife was like a light bulb moment for me. Can’t wait to show my son,Gus. He looks just like you only he is 8! We will be following you from now on.

  21. My son’s arm is just like yours. He can hold the for with his short arm (armie) and hold the knife with his hand (handy). Sometimes the food slips around though. He would love a knork to help him cut faster!

  22. These look pretty cool. We will have to get some for Viv!

  23. These look awesome! I never knew such a product existed. It can be such a pain to cut things with one hand, especially tougher foods like steak (not that I eat that often, but still… ๐Ÿ™‚ ) Have you tried to use these with meat yet?

  24. my grandson was born with one hand due to abs. would like him to try these.

  25. Cool. I have 2 friends with 1 hand (each ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). I would love to give these as a gift.

  26. Totally cool. Thanks for showing them off ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. I would love to have a set of these Knorks at my home as my little granddaughter Rhianna (6) as she comes to Nan & Pops nearly every weekend. How wonderful would it be to have some cutlery that isn’t hard for her to use. Thanks for the heads up Ryan, you are doing an awesome job! Thank you so much for all you do!

  28. I am so excited about this product! I have two needs for Knorks – first, for my father who has little movement in his left hand from a stroke. He hasn’t been able to have steak in years because he doesn’t like asking people to cut his meat and he hasn’t found a way to do it himself. This would be great for him!

Second, I am also the mom to a little boy who was born without a left forearm. He’s only 6 months old now so we aren’t exactly in a rush to buy flatware, but I’m so excited about this product I just might do it anyway!

Thank you to Knork for making this product and for offering a giveaway, and to you for hosting!

  29. The Knork looks so awesome! I’m excited to try it out as soon as I can!

  30. I have spent my entire life cutting my food with just my fork, definitely a challenge with some types of meat. These Knorks would make life so much easier! Thanks for sharing your video as I had never heard of these.

  31. My little LOH would love these! What a great idea!!

  32. Wow, super excited about this flatware! This would make my little boy feel so big.

  33. We heard about these from the Shriner’s Hospital occupational therapist. We haven’t actually seen one in person yet and would LOVE to try a set!

  34. interested in the product for my 5 year old thanks for video

  35. I LOVE THIS! I’m so excited to be able to show my daughter how to cut her food with ONE HAND! She was born with amniotic band syndrome effecting her right arm. She has little nubbins for fingers on her right hand and has no movement past her wrist. The Knork is perfect!

  36. Thanks for sharing!

  37. My almost three year old son would LOVE these! He gets so frustrated trying to eat with one hand. He would be able to feed himself independently and that would be awesome!

  38. I’ll be honest. The very first time you mentioned Knork, I purchased a set of four. It’s a strange birthday present, but I look forward to seeing how it works for our household.

  39. I would LOVE to try a Knork, I continually have to change between holding my knife and fork in different hands when I’m cutting and eating because of my grip and it would be great to not have to bother with that!

  40. My son would love to use these!

  41. Both my husband and daughter are one handed and we have been looking for something like this for a loooong time!

  42. Wow! Thanks for another chance to win! We’ve definitely been curious to see firsthand how these might make cutting a little easier for our LOH.

I bought a trial salad fork and I love it! It really does make cutting easier and it’s a great design. I hope to get a set soon.

  44. Elijah’s is 12. I’ m really tired of cutting up his food. I’ve been doing it for soooo loooong! I’m ready to graduate from that parenting task!

  45. ok the knork set is totally cool..you did a great job

  46. OK i’m glad you wrote about these because I have been eyeing them for a long time and am glad they have your seal of approval!

  47. Sunny Martinez April 17, 2014 at 8:36 pm

I would love to get a set. I’ve worried about this one thing with my son and it would be awesome to have for him as he grows!

  48. I would LOVE to have this set. My five year old Lucky Fin would LOVE to be able to easily cut his own food and the ability to cut noodles with a spoon – EUREKA!! I have not been this jazzed about something in a LONG, LONG time!!!

  49. This would be so cool for my 6 yr old grandson. He was born without a right hand and needs all the help he can get.

  50. Our little guy is almost 4 and has only 1 1/2 total fingers. He does amazing with silverware but at some point, something like this could be a huge blessing to him.

  51. I got a set of Knork flatware about a year ago when I broke my wrist and I love them!! I’m still working with my grandson on the concept of cutting with a fork, he is only 5 and is extremely independent. He prefers to teach me how to do things one handed. But I really would love to get him a set, as he grows I’m sure he would come to appreciate them a lot.

  52. Does the fork cut on both sides? I’ve been given cutlery before that has a cutting edge but they are always designed for righty one-handed peoples and I’m a lefty one-hander so I have to use them backwards.

  53. Awesome! Our 8 year old would love these!

  54. I just recently became one handed, and it’s with my non dominant hand. I have many issues with dexterity and function and have been looking for something to help with eating. As a military member little help is given when it comes to the small niceties and making life easier. So I am curious about this silverware and what if anything it can do to improve my ability to eat. Thanks for the review of this set.

  55. I would love to win this for my son!

  56. Paula Williams April 23, 2014 at 8:20 am

I would love these for Ronnie and I think we deserve them because it’s taken me over 2 hours to enter the competition because I’m rubbish at this and nobody would help me :'( and that’s how much I love him lol and he’d like an awesome special gadget for school ๐Ÿ™‚

  57. We got a Knork at the Winter outing for Helping Hands and my daughter loves it! She uses it everyday.
