Through the years, when it comes to doing things one-handed, one question has been asked of me more than any other.  Usually the person gets a puzzled look on their face and then they say, “Wait…how do you tie your shoes?”

Well…here’s how.

This is how I always look when I tie my shoes.

The video ended-up being a little long, but I wanted to be thorough.  I plan on making a shorter, more technical version soon, so stay tuned for that.

Hope you like it!

    Dear Ryan,
I am a grandfather to lbe grandson now approaching 2 and one half years old. Needless to say, he is everything to me. I want to thank-you for your website and guidance on matters. i appreciate the videos, because i too wonder how he will do thing and your videos explain it, Please keep it up and would like to see how to put on pants, take off and put on shirts and those types of everyday living skills. He receives therapy, however just like anything else in life, if someone could show you the tricks to do doing something, it becomes easier. I can’t tell you how much you and your website has done for me
    thanks

Thanks so much for sharing, Chuck! It means a lot to me to hear that what I do is helpful. I’ll continue to do my best at showing how I do everyday tasks and then you can adapt them for your grandson!

Thank you for sharing. My grand daughter was born last September without her left arm/hand from the elbow down. I have been searching for websites and blogs to learn more about this. Your site and the Born Just Right site are inspirational. Please continue to post anything that you think we might need to know.

Love it! My daughter is 5 and did the same thing you did. She just worked and worked and worked until she got it. Her teachers were in awe of her tenacity. They said that no other kid had that kind of drive to tie their shoes and she’s one of few that can do it in her pre-school :) She sits on the floor and uses her arm to help her tie.

My daughter Autumn would like to know how you shuffle a deck of cards and how you cook. How about a pony tail? Do you have a little girl that you’ve had to put in a pony tail for? I have yet to figure that one out.

    Thank you!
If you are wondering what kind of name that is then well, it’s an Indian name and I’m hemiplegic in India. I saw your videos here and they seem helpful and so I was wondering do you have any tips on how to deal with buffet situations, you know in which you have to hold the plate in one hand and take food in from the other also it would be helpful if you could tell how to handle wallets.

Thank you for the video. I have hand surgery next week and have been wondering how to do things one-handed for the six weeks that it heals. You’re an inspiration.
